My mother, a 30 year servant living by the word of God, ALWAYS played ONLY gospel music. It was her love and fear of God that allowed me to be raised in a santified home listening to the great Reverend F.C. Barnes and all those wonderful singers connected to him. I would sing Debra songs the most. As a young girl I would jokingly say, singing/praising with the Barnes is what will save me. While I know only God could and did save me, I was refering to the spirit that came upon me when I listen and sing their music. It is more than talent, it is annointing. Though I became a back slider before totally rededicating my life to the Lord 2 years ago, I would always go to the old, traditional songs of Rev. Barnes, Luther Barnes, Debra Barnes to minister to me in music.
